On Thursday, June 25, the inauguration ceremony of the “Sino-French Friendship Garden” and the Sino-French Garden Art and Cultural Exchange Exhibition were grandly held at Beijing Vocational College of Agriculture. Distinguished guests attending the event included Mr. Max Monot, Agricultural Counsellor of the French Embassy in China; Mr. Hou Fuqiang, Level-II Inspector of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs; Mr. Bai Yang, representative of the Beijing International Education Exchange Center; and Mr. Zhou Zhicheng, Party Secretary of Beijing Vocational College of Agriculture.
The “Sino-French Friendship Garden” launched its first phase of joint construction in June 2024. Two years later, this garden ushered in a symbolic moment on this day. Eight faculty members and students from three French agricultural institutions – CFPPA de Bordeaux-Gironde, CFPPA de Saint-Germain-en-Laye, and CFPPA de Saintes – together with teachers and students from Beijing Vocational College of Agriculture, embarked on a 28-day exchange program. From classrooms to nurseries, from theory to practice, the young participants from both countries honed their skills and forged deep friendships along the way.
During the exchange, Chinese and French students collaboratively designed and created brand-new floral landscapes, completed garden sketching, explored plant landscaping techniques, and experimented with AI-assisted garden design. They also visited iconic gardens and heritage sites such as the Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace, the National Botanical Garden, and the Museum of Chinese Gardens and Landscape Architecture, gaining profound appreciation for the rich legacy of classical Chinese garden art.
Since its completion in 2024, the “Sino-French Friendship Garden” has become a vivid testament to the transition from consensus to concrete cooperation in Sino-French agricultural vocational education. Serving as an important bond linking the gardening traditions of both nations, this garden of friendship is now charting a promising future for deeper exchanges and collaboration between China and France in the agricultural sector.
